The Jones Modular Video Synthesizer has been under development for almost 5 years. The first few years were spent with general system planning and a lot of research into the newer types of electronic parts available these days, and some general circuit design tests using those new parts. Even after 35 years of designing video synths, I find new parts and techniques all the time.
The past couple of years have been spent designing specific modules and building test boards to try out variations of different circuits. During the last year those have been coming together into a concrete set of module designs. One set of prototype modules has been in use in video performances for a little over a year.
The system is reaching the final stages and a few types of modules should be available to purchase by the end of the summer 2010. Additional modules will be released at regular intervals after that.
I know people are anxious to get their hands on these modules, and even more anxious for detailed information, but I have to ask you to be patient for a while longer.
I would also caution people to be careful about jumping in and buying Euro systems blindly without knowing yet what modules and cases will be appropriate. Some Euro modules will be less than interesting when used with the video modules. Others will be important. Even the cases and power supplies are important to understand because, for example, the power requirements of the video modules are higher than those of typical audio modules so cases need to have larger power supplies compared to audio systems. I'd hate for people to spend a lot of money on Euro systems before the video modules are available, only to find out they bought the wrong case or audio modules.
So save up your money (save lots of it since the video modules will cost more than typical audio modules) and please pe patient for a little while longer. I will be posting more and more info on this web site in the weeks and months to come, and the video synth will be available soon enough.
